Note: individual answers are best explored in a consultation; the questions here reflect common areas of curiosity.

Is Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture recognised in Australia?

All Bao An Tang practitioners are nationally registered with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and the Chinese Medicine Registration Board — the same regulatory body that oversees doctors and physiotherapists.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Most patients report little to no pain from acupuncture needles. The needles used are very fine — much thinner than injection needles — and the sensation is typically described as a mild pressure, warmth or brief tingle at the insertion point. Speak to your practitioner if you have concerns.

Does my private health insurance cover Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture?

Private health fund rebates are available at Bao An Tang. Coverage depends on your individual policy and extras tier. We recommend checking with your fund before your first visit; our team can also assist with claims.

How many treatments do I need?

The number of treatments varies significantly depending on the condition, its duration, and how your body responds. Acute conditions often resolve in fewer sessions; chronic conditions such as eczema or persistent pain typically require a course of treatment. Your practitioner will discuss a recommended plan at your initial consultation.

What does TCM and Acupuncture treat?

At Bao An Tang, practitioners treat dermatological conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, alopecia), chronic and acute pain, sports injuries, women's health including fertility support, digestive and gut health, stress and fatigue, insomnia, and more. See the Services & Fees page for the full list.

How does Acupuncture work?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture works by stimulating specific points along pathways (meridians) in the body to balance the flow of Qi (vital energy) and support the body's natural healing processes. From a Western biomedical perspective, research suggests it influences the nervous system, blood flow and inflammatory responses. A combination of frameworks guides practice at Bao An Tang.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a key modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine involving the insertion of very fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body. It has been practised for thousands of years and is one of the most widely used complementary health practices in the world. At Bao An Tang, acupuncture is delivered by AHPRA-registered practitioners with advanced clinical training.
